Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) Overview
BBL involves gluteal augmentation remodels, enlarges and lifts the gluteal region. There are two procedures which can be performed to reshape the buttocks—autologous fat grafting (a.k.a a Brazilian butt lift/BBL) and silicone implants—which can be used in combination or separately. Both procesdures improve the contour, size and shape of the buttocks, and the procedure best suited for your body will be analyzed.
Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
A Brazilian butt lift (commonly known as a BBL) is a fat transfer procedure involving grafting that augments the size and shape of the buttocks without implants. Excess fat is first removed via liposucttion from the hips, abdomen, back, or thighs, and once processed, a portion of this fat is then strategically injected into the buttocks and hip region.
Silicone Implants
For those individuals who do not have the necessary amount of excess body fat required for fat grafting, gluteal implants are an option for enhancement. This involves placing an artifical silicone-filled device within the buttocks muscle, creating volume in the area.
Anesthesia
Anesthesia may be general, regional (spinal), and/or intravenous sedation in combination with local anesthesia in the area being treated.
Surgery Duration
The surgical procedure takes place over an average period of 90-180 minutes. If necessary, this period may be extended. However, the surgical procedure time should not be confused with the amount of time the patient will be in the operating room. That amount of time will also include the administering of anesthesia and postoperative recovery.
Hospitalization Period
Under normal circumstances, the hospitalization period is approximately 1day.
Postoperative Care
As a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) requires performing liposuction to obtain the fat for grafting, a special surgical girdle must be worn for 3-4 weeks following surgery. Showering is allowed 48 hours after the procedure. No tub soaking, entering a swimming pool, hot tub, or body of water while drains are in place and for 2 weeks following surgery. With both a Brazilian butt lift and gluteal implants, you should sleep on your front (not on your backside) and avoid sitting down directly on your buttocks for at least 1 month. For 1 month following surgery, when sitting, a donut pillow should be used to offload pressure from the buttocks to the thighs. Avoid strenuous activity and exercise for 6 weeks following surgery.
